Mr Sunil of Prasar Bharati elected BES President

Mr Sunil of India’s public broadcaster Prasar Bharati has been elected President of the country’s Broadcast Engineering Society (BES) for 2021 to 2023.

Mr Sunil is Prasar Bharati’s Additional Director General (Global Outreach). He was elected to the BES position unopposed.

Established in 1987, BES has its headquarters in New Delhi and 12 local chapters spread across India.

It promotes the advancement and dissemination of knowledge and practices of broadcasting in the field of radio, television and other media, to enhance the knowledge of broadcast engineering professionals.

The society conducts conferences, seminars, tutorials and exhibitions regularly. Its signature event, BES Expo, an international conference and exhibition, is held every year in New Delhi.

Prasar Bharati oversees the operations of All India Radio (AIR) and India’s public television broadcaster, Doordarshan.

Mr Sunil has 33 years of experience in broadcasting. In addition to his role at Prasar Bharati, he holds several key positions at AIR including Head of International Relations, Marketing and Global Distribution. He has wide experience in implementing broadcasting projects in India and overseas.

Mr Sunil is also Vice Chairman of the ABU Technical Committee.

He won the ABU Broadcast Engineering Excellence Award in 2018 for his important contributions to the modernisation and development of Doordarshan.

He received the IETE S N Mitra Memorial Award in 2016. He serves on the international jury of the Association of International Broadcasters (AIB).
