The BBC has appointed Rhodri Talfan Davies as its Deputy Director-General, strengthening the broadcaster’s senior leadership team as it continues its organisational and strategic transformation. In his new role, Davies will serve as second-in-command to Director-General Matt Brittin, with responsibility for shaping editorial strategy, maintaining operational oversight, and safeguarding public trust in the corporation.

Davies, a long-serving BBC executive with more than 28 years of experience, most recently led the BBC’s Nations division, overseeing services across Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and English regions. His appointment follows a competitive internal recruitment process and reflects the BBC Board’s focus on strengthening leadership capability during a period of significant change.

He will also sit on the BBC Board and Executive Committee, where he is expected to play a key role in driving editorial standards and supporting the organisation’s ongoing transformation in response to shifting audience behaviours and industry pressures.
