1st ABU Panda Cup 2025 kicks off with four nations competing

9 May 2025

The inaugural ABU Panda Cup was successfully held online on 8–9 May 2025, marking a new initiative by ABU Sports to engage university students across the Asia-Pacific region in sports media production. Held in partnership with SCTV Sichuan, the championship brought together university student teams from China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines for a spirited invitational online event.

The four participating nations battled it out in “Honour of Kings” for the honour of becoming the first ABU Panda Cup Champion. Designed as a highlight of the upcoming ABU Sports Media Conference Kuala Lumpur 2025, the tournament demonstrated the power of sport in uniting cultures and fostering regional friendship through healthy competition.

ABU extends its heartfelt thanks to SCTV Sichuan and Mr Muhammad Farouk, esports commentator and organiser for their outstanding efforts in organising and delivering the championship via remote production. This event stands as a successful example of international collaboration, and the Union looks forward to the upcoming presentation by SCTV Sichuan on how such productions can be efficiently coordinated across multiple countries.
