Pakistan is preparing to take another significant step in the modernisation of its broadcasting sector, with the government outlining plans to fully digitise the analogue transmission networks of Pakistan Television (PTV) and the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) as part of its Annual Plan 2026–2027.
The initiative builds on progress made during the previous fiscal year, which saw three PTV stations and several PBC transmission facilities upgraded to digital systems. The next phase aims to complete the transition, supporting improved broadcast quality, greater operational efficiency, and a more resilient national broadcasting infrastructure.
Alongside the digitisation programme, the government has proposed establishing a National Centre for Brands Development (NCBD) to strengthen Pakistan’s national image and support export-led growth through strategic branding initiatives. Plans have also been announced to develop a Creative and Culture Industry Strategy, aimed at promoting Pakistan’s cultural and digital content internationally while expanding the country’s global media presence.
While the proposals signal a strong commitment to advancing Pakistan’s broadcasting and creative sectors, detailed implementation plans, funding arrangements, and delivery timelines have yet to be announced.
The initiatives reflect a broader vision to modernise state media institutions and strengthen Pakistan’s cultural and economic soft power. As the country continues its digital transformation, the successful implementation of these plans will play an important role in enhancing public service broadcasting and positioning Pakistan’s media industry for the future.
