The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Badminton Asia Confederation with the primary goal of promoting badminton more widely across Asia, particularly in countries where the sport’s potential remains largely untapped. The MoU also establishes a cooperative framework supporting knowledge sharing, professional development, and training for ABU members in the fields of media and broadcasting.
Through this partnership, Badminton Asia will also gain opportunities to increase engagement with the media industry and build greater visibility among broadcasters across the Asia-Pacific region. These goals will be supported through joint initiatives, shared projects, and access to ABU’s wide professional network.
The MoU was signed at the ABU Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur by Ahmed Nadeem, ABU Secretary-General, and YH Dato’ Kenny Goh Chee Keong, Secretary-General of Badminton Asia, which serves as the governing body for badminton in Asia under the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
YH Dato’ Kenny Goh Chee Keong, Secretary-General of Badminton Asia, expressed strong support for the collaboration, noting its value for the region. “This MoU with ABU is a historic moment for us,” he said. “It will help us promote badminton more widely across Asia, especially in countries that have not yet fully explored the sport’s potential.” He added that the partnership will also support the “delivery of academic online and offline courses related to media, broadcasting, communication, and media management via the ABU Media Academy.”
The ABU has expressed its appreciation to Badminton Asia successfully signing the MoU. This collaboration represents an important step for ABU in strengthening ties with regional sports organizations and creating valuable opportunities for ABU members to engage in international badminton initiatives.
The partnership is expected to enhance ABU’s visibility in the sports community while providing members with access to development programs, competitions, and knowledge-sharing platforms that can benefit broadcasters across the region.
