The media landscape is undergoing profound transformation. Rapid technological development, changing audience behaviour, growing competition from global digital platforms and increasing concerns about misinformation are redefining the role of broadcasters across the Asia-Pacific region.

In response to these changes, the ABU is launching the “ABU Media Futures Dialogue” Series—a new high-level platform bringing together Directors-General, Chief Executives and senior leaders of ABU member organisations.

The series will provide a trusted space for open and forward-looking conversations about the future of broadcasting and public-service media. It will enable media leaders to exchange experiences, examine common challenges and explore practical strategies for keeping their organisations trusted, relevant and sustainable.

The inaugural online dialogue, “The Role of Public Broadcasters and Public Media in a Changing Media Landscape,” will focus on several critical issues: maintaining public trust and editorial integrity; responding to misinformation and disinformation; reaching audiences across digital platforms; demonstrating public value beyond ratings; and securing the independence and sustainability of public-service media.

This will not be another conventional conference. The Dialogue Series is intended to encourage candid, focused and solutions-oriented exchanges among media leaders. Each session will examine an important area shaping the future of our industry, with the discussions informing a final report containing key insights and recommendations.

The report will be presented during the 63^rd ABU General Assembly in Colombo, under the theme “Media for Peace and Humanity: Truth, Trust, and Transformation.”

Through this new initiative, the ABU aims to strengthen strategic cooperation among its members and help broadcasters navigate transformation with confidence. Although technologies and platforms will continue to evolve, our shared responsibility remains unchanged: to provide audiences with trusted information, meaningful content and media services that contribute positively to society.
